Things I do to relax when I get home from work

Oftentimes, work just has me so tired and stressed that all I can manage to do is to remove my makeup and climb into bed with exhaustion. Although the major part of my day is spent at my desk, I also spend an indeterminate amount of time on my feet going from one department to another at the office.

Staying calm and relaxed is nearly impossible as well because I live in a crowded apartment complex where the other tenants virtually extend their days into the night just like everybody else to make the rent or just to earn a decent living wage. Ah, the follies of living the upwardly mobile urban existence!

That said, I have been able to establish my own nightly ritual just to be able to relax after a stressful day at work. I FITS!

No, that is not a grammatical error you see there. F stands for a foot spa, which is something I have to relax my feet and legs as well as my entire body. I own a foot spa machine with a simple design, and it even heats up the water from cold, so I do not have to run from the stove with a whistling kettle full of freshly heated water that I still have to carefully pour into the foot spa basin.

My foot spa machine has a nice water temperature control that ensures the water is always at a nicely warm level that penetrates the painful nerve endings on the soles of my feet and goes up to the rest of my body. I do not have to pay outrageous fees just to get my feet pampered and also cleaned because the unit is equipped with a nifty pedicure center.

The component of the foot spa has three attachments that enable me to do my own pedicure and also do deep feet massages at my option. The accessories include a pumice stone for sloughing off the rough skin patches on my feet, an emery board for nail buffing, and a knobbed massager. The tub has roller massagers along with air bubble massage features. Ahh, bliss for my feet, relaxation for my body!

The I in FITS stands for Indulging my pet. I own a dog, you see, and I find it therapeutic to give him the loving care he needs via heath-giving dog food, treats, and chews. It gives me immense satisfaction to see my pet grow with each passing day because I take care of him as best as I can.

The T stands for Tea, as I indulge in my favorite cup of herbal tea that can calm my nerves and bring peace to my often work-troubled mind. I found chamomile and other organic teas on Amazon and bedtimes have never been less stressful and more calming than ever. I love how the different teas give a calming effect that makes me feel sleepy so I can wake up refreshed and rejuvenated the next day.

The S stands for a sleeping mattress, and the one I found has a memory foam core that follows the contours of my body, so my back and neck stress points have gotten fewer and fewer so I wake up well-rested and ready to face another day at work. In an endeavor to enjoy the ultimate sleeping experience, I have paired my super-comfy mattress with a pair of memory foam pillows plus a nice down alternative comforter.

How about you? What do you do to de-stress after a full day of work?

My beauty routine before I go to sleep

To look fabulous and flawless during the day, you need to treat your skin right at night. Right!  It’s common knowledge that going to bed with makeup or without washing one’s face is a big no-no! And if you have sensitive and acne-prone skin like me, it causes clogged pores, bacteria buildup, and a whole host of skin issues. My night time skin care ritual can never be an ‘option’ no matter how tiring or exhausting my day has been. A few simple steps keep bad skin at bay and help me wake up to glowing and relaxed face.

#1. Cleanse and wash

This step cannot be stressed upon enough! I generally use a good cleansing milk to take off foundation, blush, lip color and lip liner. If I’ve run out, a moist towelette with a dab of moisturizer will work just as well. For eye makeup, I’m a lot more careful. Many waterproof mascaras and liners do not come off easily. I use a small ball of cotton dipped in olive oil or coconut oil to get rid of that persistent long-lasting make-up.

When I’m done, I wash my face with a gentle soap-free cleanser and pat dry with a soft clean towel.

#2. Steam or apply a pack

If I have the time for a little something extra, I set the steamer on whilst I clean and dry my face. Steaming once a week can help push out impurities from pores, leaving my face clean and germ-free.

If my skin has been feeling particularly dry or tired, I switch out the steam for a hydrating pack. And while I’m at it, I have a relaxing soak in the tub with plenty of bath bombs and salts to enhance my DIY spa!

#3. Tone and moisturize.

On nights that follow a long work-day, I may not have the energy to steam, soak, and spa. But cleaning my face and massaging in some moisturizer is never skipped! Nights like this deserve some pampering and I bring out my favorite aromatic cleansers and toners. After toning, it’s time to lock in all that moisture to keep my skin plumped and hydrated.

Now that my face is taken care of, the rest of me gets attention too! Starting from scrubs for my aching heels, to hand and nail creams for my fingers, I make sure that my skin is provided the care it needs to start its nightly repair.

To wrap it all up, a flourish of a yummy lip butter, keeps my lips kissable and soft!

#4. Sheet check.

This may seem trivial, but I always make sure I sleep on clean sheets and pillow covers. Tiny dust mites thrive on dead skin cells that accumulate every 3 to 4 weeks. Putting a fresh towel on my pillow each night ensures that no dirty surfaces come in contact with my skin.

Following this nightly regimen I always my feel invigorated and refreshed when I wake up to start a new day, every morning!

A Few Things You Should Know about Facial Steamers

Facial steamers are pretty great to have at home, but how much do you really know about them? Cleansing your face with the help of steam is one of the healthiest treatments you can get, and the best part is that you do not have to go to the spa in order to get such a treatment. Here are a few things I learned about facial steamers and I want to share with you.

Using a facial steamer is really easy!

I have no exact idea why anyone should spend a small fortune on spa treatments, when all you need for a flawless complexion is a facial steamer you can use at home. These machines are taking care of heating the water and transform it into fine mist that penetrates the superficial layers of the skin, helping your pores to open and unclog. The best part is that, after your pores are open and cleansed, they will reduce their dimension, which will give your face that wonderful, smooth appearance that only movie stars seem to have.

Acne will be greatly reduced

Facial steamers can be used by women of all ages, and even by men. Teenagers who have to fight acne or anyone who has to deal with this predicament can take full advantage of the benefits offered by a facial steamer. The problem with acne is that it cannot be prevented just by using soap and water (although having a clean face helps). Blackheads and whiteheads are specifically stubborn, and you need to open your pores, so that these unsightly blemishes on your face can be eliminated. I am so pleased with how efficient my facial steamer is in this regard, that I have been telling all my friends about it. Also I pointed them to 3topreviews.com and Ekosmet.com.

Fight wrinkles with the best weapons

Anti-aging creams are nice and good to have, but there is only this much they can do. Plus, they can be pretty expensive, and I am obviously talking about the superior quality kind here. With a facial steamer, you can erase a few years off your face, and you will not have to spend a small fortune, or worse, go under the knife for it. What happens when you use a facial steamer is that you easily get rid of all the dead cells and your skin is more capable of producing new cells and rejuvenating itself, helping you look younger and more beautiful.

The Cosmetic Products I Like to Use for My Face

Any woman must have a face care routine, especially from a certain age forward, if not earlier. Since our skin is assaulted by all kinds of allergens, pollutants and other factors that can extensively affect its appearance, you need to be careful and pay the proper attention. In this post, I want to tell you a few things about the cosmetic products I use specifically for my face.

Cleanser

dr1Having a clean face is extremely important, especially if you are wearing makeup every day, like I do. Put on top of that the dust and grime caused by simply walking through the city air and you get yourself a recipe for disaster. That is why I place on top of the list my beloved and loyal cleanser that is perfectly capable of wiping away all the layers of face skin attackers I have to deal with every day. I personally spend at least one minute rubbing cleanser against my skin, just to be sure that everything gets wiped away.

Moisturizer

dr2There are so many factors that contribute to developing drying skin that I don’t know where to begin. So, that is why I found moisturizer to be among the must haves for a proper skin regimen for my face. I appreciate having my skin firm and elastic and I think that happens because I don’t forget about moisturizing properly. I also noticed that makeup lasts longer if it is added after applying moisturizer. If you have dry skin or you are already fighting your first wrinkles, I highly recommend getting a moisturizer and including it in your routine.

SPF cream

dr3UV rays can be quite a problem, even when it is not summer. They are the reason for premature aging, and the skin on your face and your hands is the first to suffer. I apply good quality SPF cream when I know I will spend a lot of time having my skin exposed to UV rays, so I can counterattack this unpleasant effect before it starts bothering me. Don’t forget to apply some on your hands, as well, before going outside.

Renewing oil

dr4Another cosmetic product I use for my face is renewing oil. I go for organic and I am counting on it for extra moisturizing effects. The best part is that this product also contributes to skin rejuvenation, so I highly recommend it to anyone fighting aging signs, in the form of wrinkles and fine lines.
